Year 3 Topics

In Year 3 we cover a broad and balanced curriculum, in order to develop well-rounded individuals.

Autumn Term

Who first lived in Britain?

This term we will be exploring the changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Bronze Age. Throughout this topic the children will be developing their chronological knowledge and historical enquiry skills, as well as having opportunities to create replica cave paintings, such as those found in the Lascaux Caves using Stone Age style paint and making Stone Age tools.

Rocks and Soil

In Science the children will be becoming rock detectives. They will be learning about the three main classifications of naturally occurring rocks: sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous. As part of this topic, the children will learn how these different rocks are formed by making chocolate rocks. Through this practical activity the children will be able to taste and feel the differences in the structure and strength of the different types of rock.
