A busy start in Year Five
'We have been very lucky to start our new school year with an amazing text called 'The Man who walked between the Towers', which tells about the life of street performer, Philippe Petit. In 1974, he strung a cable between the Twin Towers in New York and jumped, danced and balanced his way from one to the other over a quarter of a mile high! The children have produced such fantastic work and put themselves in his shoes to try and explain the emotions he felt during this daring act and also offered advice to him that would have helped him make safe passage along the cable. Last week marked the anniversary of the tragic 9/11 attack and, although upsetting, the text allowed us to discuss the devastating ordeal that thousands of New Yorkers and their families had to endure. The text about Phillipe ends with a very important message about how the memory of the towers still lives on and the children showed great respect and kindness to all of those involved. I am very proud of every single one of them, both for the work they have produced, but also their grown up and caring attitudes and for letting their light's shine so brightly.'
